Santa Clarita, Calif., February 17, 2015 — People love their pets. It doesn’t matter if they are bumpy, furry, slithery or smooth; animals play an important role in our lives. Most owners consider their pets a part of the family and this sentiment will likely never change. In fact, pet ownership in U.S. households has steadily increased to 82.5 million, according to the 2013-2014 APPA National Pet Owners Survey.
“National Love Your Pet Day” is February 20. Animal Behavior College (ABC) has created a special video that celebrates the extraordinary bond people have with their pets and encourages pet owners to take time every day to appreciate and enjoy the relationship they have with their pet pals.
For many pet owners, celebrating this ‘unofficial’ holiday involves a day of pampering, playing or primping their pets. Some choose to give special treats, buy a new toy, play games, go biking or running while others splurge on luxury grooming packages and other special services that lavishly indulges their four-legged friends. Some pet owners choose to celebrate their pets by spending a quiet evening at home with them snuggled by their side. Regardless of how one chooses to celebrate, the day is all about pets.
Although dogs and cats are still the most popular pets, the survey also noted that pet ownership in the U.S. for other types of animals including birds, freshwater fish, saltwater fish, reptiles and small animals has also increased.
