Santa Clarita, Calif., March 4, 2013- Animal Behavior College (ABC) is now enrolling students for its Dog Trainer On-Site Program beginning June 24, 2013 at its Santa Clarita, California location. Founded in 1998, ABC is the largest animal career vocational school of its kind in North America and incorporates a unique distance-learning model. With this new local program option, students can choose to take the certified dog training class in a personal classroom setting, full-time, and complete the program in approximately 5 months. “The overall success of our first class of enrollees has more than proven the viability of this class and we are pleased to offer the June session,” says Debbie Kendrick, Vice President of Animal Behavior College. “It is an opportunity for students to learn from professional dog trainers working in the industry.”

The program includes in class academics for learning dog psychology, basic obedience cues and effective problem solving, as well as 60 hours of hands-on-training done with the coaching of an ABC Certified Dog Trainer Instructor. Students will have an opportunity to work with homeless dogs to help them become better candidates for adoption, observe dog behavior and do temperament testing. The well-rounded comprehensive program gives students the fundamentals to continue their training for therapy and/or service dogs, and various other specialties as well. After graduation, the ABC Alumni Program provides lifetime benefits including job and business building assistance.

ABC offers student-friendly financing options, which may allow students to get started for as low as $25 a month. Enrollment is limited for the June 2013 class. For more information, please call 800-795-3294.

ABC is committed to helping their military students with tuition assistance and funding is available for qualified military families. The Certified Dog Trainer Classroom Program is approved for the training of veterans and eligible persons under the provisions of title 38, United States Code. Below is a list of programs available:

•The Montgomery GI bill – Chapter 30
•Post 9/11 GI Bill – chapter 33
•Selected Reserve – Chapter 1606
•Reserve Educational Assistance – Chapter 1607
•The Survivors and Dependent’s Education Assistance and more!

Rose Ferguson is currently enrolled in the Dog Trainer On-Site Program and she served in Afghanistan. She is gaining valuable information about different dog breeds and the humane ways of training dogs. “I have always loved dogs and this course makes me appreciate them even more. I have found my calling. With this knowledge, I want to expand my abilities and go on to train service dogs for American Veterans who have PTSD. It gives me great pride to know that I can offer a trained dog companion to someone with PTSD to help them not commit suicide or bodily harm to themselves or anyone else,” said Rose.”

Beth Harrison is the class instructor and she is an ABC Certified Dog Trainer. She has been teaching private and group lessons in California for almost 7 years. Beth has trained hundreds of dogs from all walks of life including energetic puppies, obsessive-compulsive juveniles, aggressive adults, and rescue dogs suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. After becoming an ABC certified dog trainer Beth began to raise puppies for Guide Dogs of America and was the head trainer in Los Angeles for a multi-state pet dog training company. As an AKC Certified Evaluator, Beth holds classes to certify dogs as S.T.A.R. Puppies and Canine Good Citizens.
